Principal's Message April 2011

Dear Parents,
The week of May 9th is Teacher Appreciation Week at Del Cerro. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the diligence and skill of the teachers who have worked with your child during this school year. This recognition does not require money or special gifts. It is a great time to honor these public servants with a sincere “note of thanks” from you and your child. Nothing means more to teachers than the acknowledgment they receive from the students they teach and the parents they collaborate with during the school year. Our PTA will be organizing a special luncheon for our teachers on your behalf and any assistance that can be provided will be greatly appreciated. Rodger Mudd points out that “no calling in our society is more demanding than teaching; no calling in our society is more selfless than teaching; and no calling is more central to the vitality of a democracy than teaching.” Lindley Stiles reflects that “The world seldom notices who teachers are, but civilization depends on what they do.”
TEACHER
You are not the kind of teacher who only teaches the things on written pages. You’ve taught me how to live my life and how to think for myself. I can never repay you; I can only thank you and try to make you proud of me. But I want you to know that whatever I become, however far I go in life, I owe so much to you. You are a treasure, never to be forgotten. –Author Unknown-

Teaching is the profession that creates all others!! Your efforts and those of your children reaffirm that quality education for our young people continues to be our greatest challenge as well as our most vital responsibility. It also recognizes how much we rely on teachers with the help of parents to provide guidance, support, and encouragement to our students. Your support of this special week will help us focus attention upon the critical role education plays in our society. There are few adults who do not recall vividly the teachers who provided him or her with inspiration and contributed a positive impact on their learning. This is a great time to acknowledge those contributions for the teachers of Del Cerro!!
