Yearbooks

Yearbooks will be distributed to the classrooms on Monday, June 13th. Any extra copies will be available for sale after school on Friday, June 17th. Quantities are very limited and sales will start at 2:45 sharp! Each  yearbook is $25, cash only. Checks will not be accepted! If you have questions about your yearbook pre-order
purchase, please let me know by June 6th!

Del Cerro will miss Bill Michelle

We would like to publicly thank Mr. Bill Michelle who will be leaving us, due to his son promoting at the end of this year. Bill had the wise idea of starting a recycling program for our school and did so singlehandedly. He not only began collection of the bottles and cans all over the school, he also undertook the daunting job of taking  them home, sorting them, and turning them into cash for the school. As if this wasn’t enough, Bill also signed Del Cerro up with the Walmart plastic bag recycling program and took in plastic bags for a few years until Walmart ended the program. Thank you Bill for making Del Cerro Elementary a friend to the environment and helping develop the awareness of our students to the importance of recycling!!!!

Del Cerro Carnival Wrap-Up

The weather gave us a perfect day, after drizzling on us all week! Now that the dust has finally settled, I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge some of the people who made the Carnival the success it was. First off, I’d like to thank everyone for coming. The grounds were full of families, and it was a really wonderful afternoon/evening. We had booths staffed with High School students from all over town, earning their community service hours toward their graduation. We also had help from a local Boy Scout Troop during set-up, and a Girl Scout troop in the Face Painting booth. What made this so special is that since we had so many students working booths, we did not need to rely as heavily on Del Cerro Parents, which allowed them to come to the Carnival, and play with their kids. Many thanks go out to Rebekkah Knoles for staffing our booths, and allowing us to have such a large event. I’d also like to thank Marketa Weinzimer for her work on the Silent Auction which was quite beautiful. I’d like to thank the teachers who came and spent hours in the booths, knowing what a kick the kids get out of seeing them at these types of events. I’d also like to thank all of you who loaned us shade, so our volunteers didn’t melt in the sun. Stephanie Ming put together an amazing array of prizes for the kids. But most of all, I’d like to thank Dr. Callison, for allowing us so much freedom with this event, and Lesley Jackson, who’s persistence and reminders were invaluable. It was a really great day.

Reflections 2011-2012 —”Diversity means…”

Get Ready for Reflections  2011/2012!
Here's your chance to get a jump start on your Art Work for next Fall! Get your imagination going, the new theme is: "Diversity means..." This is an amazing opportunity to show your creativity, so please join the Reflections Program. You can start working on your art now, all will be due in October.
Go to www.ptareflections.org and look under "about reflections" for details on rules for all categories: Photography, Visual Art, Literature, Dance Choreography, Musical Composition & Film Production. Please note that the student entry form and all rules will be finalized in early August, so re-check the web site in August to make sure there were no changes that would effect your art work.

Silent Auction Update

Dear Del Cerro familiesand teachers:
I would like to thank all of you for participating in our Gift Baskets Silent Auction. We had some very valuable, unique and fun themed baskets to auction off. Your efforts brought over $1600 to the Del Cerro PTA! It was such a wonderful Friday afternoon, I watched lots and lots of kids, parents and teachers enjoying games, food and having fun.
I would also like to thank Julie Fretwell and Cindy Back for their support, suggestions and ALWAYS positive attitude. What great PTA leaders we have! Have a great summer; spend as much time as you can with your families, travel and swim and hope to see you all back in September.

Ink / Toner Recycling

Thank you to all that have participated in this year’s ink / toner cartridge recycling. Even though Staples  reduced their rewards this year, we still did very well. We made $846 in Rewards money so far this year that went to paper and supplies for PTA. That is money that did not have to come out of the PTA budget and can go to other
programs in need. If you still have any that you can bring in, please do so. This program will continue next year so if you are able to still collect over the summer we would be happy to have them at the start of school.

We still have a few unclaimed positions, so if you have any interest in any of the following, please contact me ASAP so we can get you started!!! Here’s what we are still looking for:

We are also looking for Co-chairs for any of the committees that currently do not show one. Many of the Chairpersons indicated will be moving on from Del Cerro someday, and are looking to train their successor, so if any of these positions holds some interest for you, come on-board!! We have a great group that works well together, and we are always looking for more faces. I hope you all have a safe and restful summer vacation, and come back in Fall with enthusiasm for another successful, inspiring year at Del Cerro. I look forward to hearing from you.

Principal's Message June 2011

Dear Parents:
The year has flown by and now we look forward to summer and lots of fun. Parents always want to know what to do with their children during the summer months. How do you keep them engaged in learning and still enjoy their time away from the classroom. Here are a few ideas and websites you can consider:

Del Cerro Campout 2011

June 10 6:00 PM – June 11 9:00AM

$1 – Per Person – Includes camping spot, breakfast (donuts and juice) and  popcorn for the movie.

Dinner will be offered for $1 – per slice of Pizza (Costco) $.50 – per drink (soda or water)

Families! Bring your Tent, Sleeping Bags, Chairs and Flashlights.

Come and enjoy our Last Family Fun Night.

Dinner will be served at 7pm, Movie and popcorn at 8pm

(no alcohol or flammable materials allowed)

All food must be pre-ordered. NO EXCEPTIONS
